We must call on the ancient art of gematria in Hebrew; i.e. where the same symbol represents both a letter and a number. The Hebrew word we need to focus on is “severity.” Geburah” offers us the viewing place. In Hebrew letters, right to left, we have “gimel” which equals three; veis equals two; vav equals six; reisch equals two hundred; and finally hei equals five. Doing the addition: 3 + 2 + 6 + 200 + 5 = 216. On first sight, two hundred and sixteen in no way resembles 666. Keep in mind ancients paid great attention to squares and cubes and even higher powers of numbers. Indeed, a lesson on magic squares with examples is right here. Let’s look closer at the number that makes the cube of 216. Multiply: 6 x 6 x 6 = 216. We have just found the triple six.
Here’s the nub: Severity central (emanation 5) must be balanced or tempered by the pillar of mildness or mercy located on the opposite right -or destruction occurs. Those who study Kabbalah are aware that total destruction of civilization in the distant past took place because of a lack of mercy. Furthermore, it is better to err on the side mercy, rather than severity. An all merciful person, is referred to as a “saint.” In some religions the Deity is also referred to as “all merciful”!
